Multiple DUI’s for Mother in Coral Springs Crash
CORAL SPRINGS: Police have reported that a 38-year-old woman was involved in a car crash while driving under the influence of alcohol. Adding insult to injury, she was driving drunk with seven children who were not wearing their seatbelts. In what seems like nothing new for the female motorists, her records indicate that this was not her first offense, as she had been previously arrested for driving under the influence with three children in the car. The recent incident occurred when the drunk motorists crossed a raised curbed median and collided with another vehicle in Coral Springs, Broward County. Police officers detected the smell of alcohol on her breath and heard her admit to drinking. A closed glass of beer was found in the car’s center console, along with spilled alcohol on the driver’s seat.
Court records reveal that the driver had been arrested for a similar offense just a month prior, with two of the three children from that incident also present during the recent crash. During her court appearance in Broward County, the driver faced 27 charges, including DUI with damage to property or a person, driving under the influence while accompanied by a minor, child neglect, child restraint violations, driving with a suspended license, refusal to take a DUI test, driving on the wrong side of the road, and battery on a police officer.
Previously, on April 14, prosecutors had filed a misdemeanor case against the driver for charges of DUI, DUI with a minor in the vehicle, and resisting an officer without violence. In that instance, she was discovered in a parking lot exhibiting signs of intoxication. Her prior record includes traffic violations in 2021 and cases involving violence, assault, burglary, and battery in previous years.
The judge set the driver’s bond at $82,500 for the new case, but certain charges, such as refusal to submit to a DUI test, driving with a suspended license, driving across a divided section, driving with a suspended license, and wrong-way driving, were considered nonbondable offenses. Consequently, the driver was held at the Paul Rein Detention Facility on Tuesday night.
