FLYING CARS IN MIAMI?

The top of the Miami Paramount Worldcenter Complex is set to become the site for the first parking lot for flying cars. Keeping in line with the high speed of technological progress that seems to be putting the future behind us, flying cars are just around the corner.  The developer of the sky port, Dan Kodsi, seems to have a firm futuristic grip on this imminent commuting revolution, which from atop the sixty-floor skyscraper located in downtown Miami, he envisions flying cars landing and taking-off. According to news reports, the ride-share service company, Uber, seems highly intent on winning the race to the sky. Uber plans to have several manufactures design and test prototypes of VTOLs (vertical takeoff and landing vehicles). If feasible, Uber may become the first transportation service company to fly passengers from a city street to a parking lot 1000 feet in the air. Though still under construction, the Paramount isn’t expected to serve as a flying car parking lot until 2020. In the meantime, the high-rise condo’s residents will be able to visit the glass-covered rooftop for breathtaking views of the Miami metropolitan area as they await the arrival of the first flying car.

FLYING CARS AND THE FUTURE

Ponder for a moment a city avenue with a backdrop of flying vehicles. This notion may seem futuristic, but it’s getting closer to our everyday at a bewildering pace. However, and realistically speaking, cars taking off from your driveway or a downtown Miami parking lot will not be happening anytime soon. It’s a hard fact that motorists get into accidents everyday on Miami avenues, highways, and streets all the time; despite having driving lanes, traffic lights, etc. Imagine modern city motorists behind the wheel of flying cars. Not going to happen, especially with so many motorists barely being able to handle a vehicle that moves forward and backward, left and right, imagine one that can travel up and down, and all around. At present, and for a mere $600,000, those interested in buying a flying vehicle can pre-order one from a Dutch company called PAL-V. The prices of flying cars will eventually range from 200K to 1 million bucks depending on the manufacturer. Apart from the hefty sales price, the costs of powering and maintaining a flying vehicle would be sky-high. Unless powered by a renewable or alternative power source, conventional fuel consumption for a 20-minute flight could reach the hundreds, if  not thousands of dollars. Furthermore, operating a flying vehicle in commercial or residential areas would most likely be enforced by strict laws and regulations aimed at making sure public safety is upheld. Engines should be quite as to not cause noise pollution and be free of any parts that could fall off the vehicle. Legally, it would take lawmakers months if not years before being able to work-out all the regulatory issues and details encompassing car flights. There would be matters such as operator licenses and certified training, air traffic logistics, manufacturer regulations, insurance requirements, and many more critical factors determined before flying cars in Miami can become a reality.

WHAT TO DO AFTER AN ACCIDENT?

• Do not give a statement.
• Do not move or let anyone move you, or your car, unless there is a threat of further injury. Wait for the paramedics and the police.

• Notify your insurance company of the accident (your auto insurance policy requires that you contact them immediately after the accident and failure to do so may jeopardize your coverage).
• Visit your family doctor for a follow-up.
