Accident in Weston Leads to I-75 Closure

I-75 Crash in Weston – Seven Injured

Seven individuals sustained injuries following a collision on I-75, leading to road closures in Weston. The incident occurred on the southbound lanes of Alligator Alley, causing significant disruption. The crash involved a dump truck and another vehicle, resulting in a dire situation. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue (BSFR) swiftly responded to the scene in the early hours of Monday morning to provide assistance to the victims.

BSFR reported that among those injured, three men were in critical condition and were promptly transported to Broward Health Medical Center. Additionally, three other individuals were taken as trauma patients with injuries that were not life-threatening. Notably, two of the victims were juveniles, and there was one person with minor injuries.

Live footage captured tire marks veering off the expressway, and although the extent of the car’s damage was not fully visible due to a person still being inside, the severity of the situation was evident. The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation revealed that a Honda, carrying six passengers, and a dump truck were involved. The vehicles breached the guardrail, causing a Honda to overturn onto an embankment and come to rest on its side. Meanwhile, the dump truck continued down the embankment for several hundred feet, colliding with a power line pole and damaging heavy-duty power lines in the process.

Emergency response teams, including Florida Power and Light and heavy-duty tow trucks, quickly arrived at the scene to address the fallen power line and clear the wreckage. Presently, as of 11 a.m., two individuals remain in critical condition, while the others are reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities are diligently investigating the circumstances leading to the collision, seeking to determine the cause of the incident. Consequently, the off ramp from I-75 onto Glades Parkway has been temporarily closed as a result of the accident. The incident serves as a reminder of the critical importance of road safety and vigilant driving to prevent such accidents from occurring.
