BOAT FOUND EMPTY AND SUNK
A vessel recently started to sink in the vicinity of Biscayne Bay, specifically near Margaret Pace Park in Miami, situated at 745 N. Bayshore Drive. This incident occurred on a Thursday.
Authorities report that the boat was empty at the time it started to take on water. Presently, they are actively engaged in determining the rightful owner of the vessel. Biscayne Bay, renowned for its vibrant water enthusiast activities, offers a stunning backdrop for such incidents, and the search for the boat’s owner adds an intriguing twist to this maritime episode.
WOMAN AND CHILD ALMOST DROWN IN BISCAYNE BAY, BRICKELL KEYS
In a concerning incident unfolding at Biscayne Bay, a woman placed her 3-year-old nephew in a potentially life-threatening situation when she leaped into the bay while clutching the toddler in her arms. The situation escalated further as she proceeded to disrobe when responding officers arrived on the scene, according to law enforcement reports.
This unusual sequence of events originated with reports of a woman causing damage to landscaping in Brickell on a Thursday morning. Calls for assistance were first made around 8:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Miami Police Capt. Freddie Cruz shed light on the situation, stating, “Officers responded to 609 Brickell to a criminal mischief call where there was a young lady that was causing some sort of damage, breaking things inside a building.”
When authorities located the 27-year-old woman, Natalia Marina, along with her sister and her young nephew, the situation took an alarming turn as all three individuals entered Biscayne Bay. Marina’s actions did not stop there, as she reportedly swam from Brickell to Brickell Key, still holding her nephew in her arms.
Concerned witnesses, one of which was out walking her dog at the time, observed the woman and the child in the bay. She captured the incident on her smartphone, expressing her concern for the child’s safety, noting, “The child was actually like going – it seemed like the child was going underwater, so I got a little concerned.”
Law enforcement officials disclosed that the woman in the water undressed herself when confronted by officers. The witness recounted the startling scene, stating, “I guess when the police came, she took all of her clothes off and started throwing them at the police.”
Videos shared on social media platforms, including Only in Dade, depicted the responding officers on a boat as they worked to safely retrieve the woman and the toddler from the bay. Capt. Freddie Cruz emphasized the disturbing nature of the incident, mentioning, “Once the officers got there, they made contact with her and she actually began swishing the officers away, taking off her clothes… There’s nothing normal about this.”
Despite the challenging encounter with the woman, law enforcement successfully rescued the woman and the child from the water. Cruz commended the officers for their swift actions, highlighting the positive outcome of the situation, with no injuries reported. The child was taken to the hospital for evaluation and was confirmed to be in good health.
Witnesses to the incident expressed relief that the ordeal concluded without harm to the child. The witness remarked, “Yeah, it’s good that the child is fine, but it’s really scary, especially here. Things like that don’t happen. It’s Brickell Key, it’s quiet.”
Marina was taken into police custody and now faces multiple charges, including criminal mischief, child abuse, and resisting arrest, underscoring the gravity of the incident and the potential dangers posed to the child in Biscayne Bay.
MAN TRIES TO RIDE HOMEMADE WHEEL ACROSS THE ATLANTIC – BUSTED FOR SPEEDING?
A Floridian individual’s audacious endeavor to traverse the Atlantic Ocean using a self-constructed hamster wheel has resulted in federal charges being brought against him, as outlined in a legal complaint filed in Miami. Reza Baluchi, aged 51, encountered the U.S. Coast Guard while they were engaged in preparations for Hurricane Franklin, approximately 70 miles (112 kilometers) off the shores of Tybee Island, Georgia, on August 26, as reported in the federal court’s filed complaint. The charges levied against Baluchi, namely obstruction of boarding and violation of a captain of the port order, were presented on Tuesday.
During the encounter with the Coast Guard, Baluchi stated his ambitious goal of navigating his “hydro-pod” vessel all the way to England, asserting that he possessed Florida registration documentation on board, which, regrettably, he was unable to furnish to the authorities.
Upon inspection, the Coast Guard personnel determined that the vessel was kept afloat through a combination of wiring and buoys. In their professional judgment, they concluded that Baluchi was embarking on a journey that was patently hazardous, thus justifying the charges.
This incident highlights the importance of adhering to maritime laws, particularly in the waters surrounding Florida. Here are five fundamental Florida maritime laws:
