BOATING ACCIDENT IN MIAMI
Collision between Boat and Ferry Near PortMiami
A fatal incident occurred near PortMiami when a boat collided with a ferry, resulting in the death of a man and disruptions to cruise line arrivals.
Early on Sunday, a 30-foot boat struck the Fisher Island Ferry, leading to the fatality. Another individual was seriously injured and rescued from the water by ferry workers. Before being transported to the hospital, the injured person informed the workers about his missing friend, who was later discovered deceased. These events took place around 3:40 a.m. near Dodge Island, where several cruise ship terminals are located.
As a result of the crash, The U.S. Coast Guard established a temporary security zone, limiting traffic in and out of PortMiami while the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission investigates the incident. Consequently, three cruise ships, namely MSC Seascape and Norwegian Cruise Line Escape, had to modify their unloading procedures.
The sunken vessel has been recovered, and the obstruction has been removed, as confirmed by U.S. Coast Guard officials around 2:30 p.m. Consequently, PortMiami has reopened for all vessel traffic. Miami International Airport reported that affected cruise passengers were accommodated on numerous flights, with most airlines waiving rebooking fees.
Our thoughts and best wishes go out to the family of the deceased victim following this tragic boating accident in Miami, Florida.
