A Broward educator has been accused of grand theft following a series of thefts over a month-long period at a Miami Best Buy store. Two individuals, a 32-year-old woman and her accomplice a 36-year-old man, were arrested by Miami-Dade Police on Sunday and charged with five counts of third-degree grand theft.
They were brought before the court on Monday. Although the suspect is reported as a Broward teacher, Broward County Public Schools stated they have no record of her employment, and her teaching whereabouts are unknown.
Surveillance footage allegedly captured the accused stealing merchandise valued at $20,186.70 from the Best Buy store at 7751 Bird Road over five separate occasions from September 2, 2023, to January 16, 2024. The duo is accused of taking various items from the store without paying for them.
Their latest attempt on Sunday was thwarted by a Best Buy employee who observed them removing security tags from items, concealing them, and then leaving the store without payment. Both defendants are currently detained in jail.
