The woman, employed as a waitress in Wynwood, was alerted to a possible break-in of her vehicle while working nearby. Upon discovering her window broken and her wallet and purse missing, she spotted the suspect, a 41-year-old man, with her backpack. Determined to retrieve her belongings, she pursued the thief in her car, becoming so focused on him that she collided with another vehicle during a turn.

The motivation behind her pursuit was not solely monetary; she expressed that her wallet contained a sentimental photograph of her deceased mother, making its recovery imperative to her. Following the crash, she confronted the suspect to reclaim her backpack and wallet, resorting to physical force, which resulted in the suspect sustaining a black eye captured on surveillance footage.

The suspect, identified as Machado, was subsequently arrested and charged with burglary, criminal mischief, and petty theft after admitting to possessing the stolen items but denying involvement in the theft. He has a history of prior offenses, including drug possession, fraud, and burglary.

Despite being issued a ticket for the crash, the woman expressed no regret for her actions, attributing her behavior to a surge of adrenaline and acknowledging that she did not consider the potential consequences at the time. She apologized to the driver of the vehicle she collided with, emphasizing that while she does not endorse her actions, she acted impulsively in the heat of the moment.

Fortunately, aside from Machado’s black eye, no other injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
