Police Chase in Northwest Miami-Dade ends in Collision

On September 11, a high-speed police chase in Northwest Miami-Dade ended in a crash, leading to the arrest of three suspects. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) officers were pursuing a stolen white Ford van after a license plate reader flagged it as stolen from Miami-Dade County. The incident unfolded around Northwest 27th Avenue and 62nd Street, where officers attempted to stop the van. However, the driver ignored commands and sped off, driving northbound in the southbound lanes, endangering lives and property.

Due to the driver’s aggressive behavior, law enforcement briefly disengaged, issuing a “Be On The Lookout” (BOLO) alert to neighboring agencies. Shortly afterward, Hialeah Police and FHP troopers located the van, with FHP taking the lead in the pursuit. Dashcam footage captured troopers executing a PIT maneuver, a tactic used to stop fleeing vehicles. The first attempt failed, and the driver continued fleeing, crashing into several vehicles at Northwest 72nd Avenue and 74th Street. A second PIT maneuver finally brought the van to a halt.

The 34-year-old driver was arrested after being treated at a hospital and charged with grand theft, resisting arrest, and fleeing from police after a crash. The driver was also wanted for aggravated assault in a previous incident. Two other suspects were also apprehended, and the driver remains in custody awaiting his next court date.
