Officer Found Unconscious with Firearm in Lap
In a recent incident, a City of Miami police officer found himself facing legal issues as he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI). The situation unfolded as a 31-year-old officer was discovered unconscious behind the wheel of an Infiniti at the intersection of Northwest Sixth Avenue and 62nd Street around 6:57 a.m. on a Tuesday. To add to the concerning circumstances, he had a firearm resting in his lap during this unsettling episode.
Response from Miami-Dade School’s Police
The incident leading to the officer’s arrest prompted the intervention of the Miami-Dade School’s Police. Their involvement came in response to reports of a driver found passed out at the wheel. When the responding officer arrived at the scene, there were clear signs of alcohol influence, with a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the driver’s breath. In addition, the officer noted that his eyes appeared bloodshot, watery, and his eyelids were notably droopy.
Unsettling Actions and DUI Suspicions

However, the unfolding events took an unexpected turn as he inexplicably shifted the vehicle into reverse, causing it to move two feet before he eventually placed it in park. Firearm Removed as Safety Precaution
During the period in which the officer was in and out of consciousness, the school officer, in the interest of safety, removed the firearm from the vehicle. Additional police officers soon arrived at the scene and initiated the process of extracting him from the car, ultimately leading to his arrest by Miami Police officers.
Hospitalization and Refusal of Blood Sample
Due to reported stomach pain, he was subsequently transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital by Miami Fire. Despite the opportunity to provide a voluntary blood sample for alcohol testing, he declined to do so. Furthermore, when implied consent was read to him, he also refused to comply.

On the following day, his family declined to engage with reporters, choosing to remain silent in the wake of the incident. In response to the situation, a Miami Police Chief emphasized, “We are not above the law.” He further underlined the commitment of the Miami Police Department to uphold high standards among its members, from the most seasoned officers to the newest recruits.
Administrative Leave and Accountability
He who has been serving with the Miami PD since 2017, was released from jail and placed on administrative leave with pay. Investigations are ongoing to determine how he arrived at the location where he was found and to hold him accountable for his actions, which placed his life at risk and posed a threat to public safety.
