“Racing and high speeds belong on a race track, not city streets,” states Miami car accident lawyer, Jonathan Perazzo.
MIAMI, FL — A high-tech Tesla Cybertruck turned a quiet Miami neighborhood into a demolition zone when it barreled through at least eight parked cars in what locals are calling a midnight street race gone off the rails.
The chaos unfolded just after midnight on Sunday near Northwest 10th Street and Eighth Street Road, a normally peaceful block that, for a few terrifying seconds, looked more like a movie stunt set than a residential street.
By sunrise, the scene looked like a scrapyard explosion. News cameras captured shattered glass, twisted metal, and crumpled bumpers littering the curb — reminders of the trail of destruction left in the Cybertruck’s wake.
Video shared on social media by Only in Dade shows the aftermath, with stunned voices calling out for help. “Call the police!” one person shouts, while another person, clearly shaken, reacts to the extensive damage.
Among the hardest hit was Jose Zelaya, whose white Suzuki was caught in the middle of the crash like a bowling pin in the path of a runaway ball.
“I had just walked through my front door after work,” said Zelaya. “Ten minutes later, I hear this massive boom — like thunder hitting concrete. I ran outside and saw my car wrecked — and it wasn’t alone.”
Zelaya described the impact as so fierce that it pushed his Suzuki forward into a black Jeep, like dominoes toppling one by one. A Toyota Corolla parked nearby was “completely totaled,” he added, its frame crushed like a soda can.
What caused the mayhem? Witnesses told Zelaya the Cybertruck was drag racing a Lamborghini Urus, speeding through the neighborhood like it was the starting line at Daytona. But when the Cybertruck’s driver lost control, it became a wrecking ball on wheels — slamming into every parked car in sight.
The collision was so violent that one of the Cybertruck’s tires was ripped clean off and left lying in the street.
Zelaya didn’t witness the crash firsthand, but neighbors quickly pieced together the story for him. “It was reckless, it was dangerous, and now a whole street of people are paying the price,” he said.
As Miami Police officers arrived, tensions flared. Video from the scene appears to show a brief confrontation among bystanders near the wreckage.
Zelaya’s Suzuki was towed away later that day. Now left without a vehicle, he’s taking the train to work — a hard shift for someone who took pride in his first car.
“I’ve had this car for three years,” he said. “It was my first — I loved it. To see it crushed like a tin toy… it’s just heartbreaking.”
So far, the exact dollar amount of the damage remains unknown, and the City of Miami Police Department has yet to release information about the Cybertruck driver or whether any charges will be filed.
