MIAMI BEACH: Singer Danileigh, whose real name is Danielle Curiel, was arrested in Miami Beach after being involved in a hit-and-run incident while driving under the influence. The arrest occurred on Tuesday, May 30, at the 1100 block of Washington Ave.

According to the police report, officers responded to a report of an accident around 12:53 am. A witness reported seeing a gray Mercedes Benz G550, with Florida license plate 36AMXS, speeding and swerving through traffic. The vehicle collided with a moped scooter and continued driving without stopping. The moped remained stuck to the front of the Mercedes Benz for about a block.

The witness informed Officer A. Sanchez that multiple people tried to get the driver’s attention and inform her about the moped, but she didn’t stop. The witness called 911 while following the gray Mercedes Benz. Another witness confirmed the account, stating that he saw the vehicle hit the moped and keep going northbound on Washington Avenue without slowing down. He maintained visual contact with the vehicle and flagged down Officer O. Perez at the 1400 block of Washington Ave to report the hit-and-run.

Officer Perez attempted to stop the vehicle at the intersection of 14th Street and Washington Ave, but the driver initially refused to comply. After honking the horn multiple times, the driver finally pulled over at the 1600 block of Washington Ave. Officer Perez detected a strong smell of alcohol when approaching the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Danielle L. Curiel based on her Florida driver’s license, failed to provide proof of insurance when asked by Officer Perez. The officer also noticed that the passenger, identified as Miss Storey, appeared heavily intoxicated. Due to the driver’s impaired motor skills, Officer Perez instructed both Curiel and Storey to exit the vehicle and detained them for further investigation.

Officer Sanchez took over the investigation once Officer Perez completed the crash investigation. Sanchez offered Curiel the chance to perform field sobriety exercises, which she agreed to. However, Curiel did not perform satisfactorily and was subsequently arrested. She was taken to the Miami Beach Breath Testing Room, where breath tests revealed alcohol levels of 0.145 and 0.148.

The victim, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries including a kidney laceration and a spinal fracture, was transported to Ryder Trauma.

Curiel’s vehicle, a gray Mercedes Benz G550, was searched and towed. An open bottle of 1942 Don Julio tequila was found inside. Curiel was later taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for medical clearance before being transferred to TGK by Miami Beach Detention Officers.

Curiel has been cited for leaving the scene without rendering aid, failing to exercise due care, DUI, and DUI property damage.

DRINKING AND DRIVING AS A CAUSE OF HIT AND RUN

Drinking and driving is a dangerous combination that can have devastating consequences, including hit and run accidents. When individuals make the irresponsible decision to get behind the wheel while intoxicated, they put their lives and the lives of others at risk. Hit and run incidents involving drunk driving often occur when the intoxicated driver, driven by fear or impaired judgment, flees the scene of the accident without taking responsibility for their actions.

In such cases, seeking legal recourse through a personal injury lawyer becomes crucial for the victims. These professionals specialize in handling insurance claims and representing those who have been injured in hit and run accidents caused by drinking and driving. They understand the complexities of such cases and can help victims pursue the compensation they deserve for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other damages.

Drinking and driving laws are in place to deter individuals from engaging in this dangerous behavior. These laws vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction but typically involve strict penalties for those who choose to operate a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. These penalties can include fines, license suspension, mandatory alcohol education programs, probation, and even imprisonment. Additionally, hit and run offenses are treated as serious criminal offenses, further intensifying the potential consequences for the intoxicated driver who flees the scene.

The aim of these laws is to protect public safety and prevent accidents caused by impaired driving. They send a clear message that drinking and driving will not be tolerated, and those who choose to violate these laws will face severe legal repercussions.

It is important for society as a whole to recognize the dangers of drinking and driving and take steps to prevent it. This includes promoting responsible drinking habits, utilizing designated drivers or alternative transportation options, and educating individuals about the potential consequences of their actions.

By raising awareness about the risks associated with drinking and driving, enforcing strict laws, and seeking legal support through personal injury lawyers, we can work towards reducing hit and run accidents caused by intoxicated drivers and ultimately create safer roads for everyone.
