A devastating cargo plane accident near Miami International Airport (MIA) left five people dead and several others injured after a Boeing 767 overran a runway and struck vehicles near the airport.
According to local authorities, the five victims killed in the September 6, 2026 crash were identified as Rolando Aleman Leon, 55; Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53; Julio C. Pineda, 75; Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53; and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47.
Five surviving victims were transported to area hospitals, including the aircraft’s pilot and co-pilot. Authorities said both pilots were treated and released, while three other victims remained hospitalized, including two listed in critical condition.
The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the accident. The NTSB confirmed that 21 Air Flight 7598, a Boeing 767-33A cargo aircraft traveling from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Miami, overran Runway 30 while landing at MIA.
WSVN reported that the aircraft, which was being operated by 21 Air for Amazon, left the runway, struck navigational equipment and collided with a van before passing through the airport perimeter fence and striking a Toyota traveling on Northwest 67th Avenue. Investigators recovered the aircraft’s black box as they work to determine exactly what caused the deadly accident.
