Teenager Victim of Hit & Run
A 17-year-old high school cross-country runner from Southwest Miami-Dade is calling on the public for help after being injured in a hit-and-run incident. While out for an afternoon run with her teammates near Bird Road and Southwest 157th Avenue, the hit & run accident victim was struck by a white Lexus SUV driven by two older women. Despite confirming that it was safe to cross, the car appeared suddenly and hit her. The women briefly checked on her but then drove away.
The victim suffered road rashes and bruises and was treated at a nearby hospital. The hit & run accident victim’s mother expressed outrage, calling it appalling that two adults would leave a teenager injured on the road. Both mother and daughter are urging anyone with information to come forward to help identify the driver. A police report has been filed with local authorities.
Hit and Run in SW Miami-Dade Hospitalizes Two
A woman and her son were hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Northeast Miami-Dade. The incident occurred near Northeast 191st Street and Seventh Avenue in the Aventura Isles neighborhood around 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. Surveillance footage shows an SUV hitting the victims, with the driver briefly stopping to pick up a stroller before fleeing the scene. Witnesses reported that the SUV dragged one of the victims for about 10 seconds. Another witness, a nurse, rushed to assist and observed that one of the victims had head injuries and was crying intensely after the incident.
Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital and are in stable condition. Neighbors noted that the SUV driver, who was delivering packages while wearing a blue vest, was seen in the surveillance footage. Miami-Dade Police confirmed the hit-and-run but stated that the driver did not appear to be associated with Amazon. Police are investigating the incident and were seen questioning neighbors later that day. Residents shared that the mother suffered a head injury, but she and her child are expected to recover. Authorities are hoping that identification requirements for delivery drivers entering the gated community will lead to an arrest. Late Thursday night, security at Aventura Isles informed residents that an arrest might have been made, although this has not been confirmed by Miami-Dade Police.
Driver Arrested after Hit and Run in Hallandale
A hit-and-run driver was taken into custody after reportedly striking an 8-year-old girl in Hallandale Beach. Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the incident near 1000 SW 3rd St. on Monday morning. Surveillance footage captured the moment the girl ran across the street before being hit by the vehicle.
According to Hallandale Police, the driver initially stopped to check on the child but fled the scene before authorities arrived. The child suffered arm and leg injuries and was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in serious but stable condition. She is expected to recover fully, as stated by Hallandale Police Capt. Megan Jones.
After a search, police located and arrested the alleged hit-and-run driver, identified as 37-year-old driver. Body camera footage released during the arrest showed him in the passenger seat of another vehicle, driven by a woman.
A witness recounted hearing and witnessing the incident, describing the driver as braking immediately after hitting the girl with a black Mercedes Benz. The witness noted the girl’s shock and stated that she appeared hurt but unable to fully comprehend the situation.
Concerns from neighbors about speeding in the residential area prompted suggestions for speed bumps. The driver faces charges including leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, being a habitual traffic offender, and lacking insurance or registration.
