Three people lost their lives in a multi-vehicle accident that shut down the eastbound lanes of I-595 near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport for several hours. The crash occurred just before 4 a.m. on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
A blue BMW AG, driven by a 63-year-old man, was traveling eastbound when it collided with a Hyundai Accent that was moving at a slower speed. The front of the BMW struck the Hyundai, leading to the fatal crash.
Emergency responders from Davie Fire Rescue worked to extract the victims from the Hyundai. The 27-year-old driver and a 24-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Another passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was transported to Broward Health Medical Center but was declared dead around 5 a.m. The highway reopened around 10:20 a.m., and authorities are continuing their investigation into the crash.
