Corvette bursts into flames leaving one dead and several injured

A man lost his life and two women were left in critical but stable condition after a Corvette crashed and caught fire on a dangerous stretch of road in Opa-locka.

The crash happened just before 7:15 a.m. Sunday along Northwest 135th Street near 27th Avenue, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses recorded cellphone footage showing the car completely engulfed in flames moments after impact.

Residents said the vehicle was traveling at an extremely high speed before slamming into multiple parked cars. One neighbor described seeing the car lift into the air before the driver lost control. Debris was scattered across the street, and first responders arrived to find victims injured on the ground.

High-speed driving dramatically increases the severity of crashes, reducing reaction time and making it nearly impossible to regain control once something goes wrong. At excessive speeds, even a minor mistake can turn into a catastrophic collision, with greater force of impact leading to more serious injuries, vehicle fires, and a higher likelihood of fatalities.

Authorities confirmed the driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. One passenger was also thrown from the car, while another remained trapped inside as the fire spread. Neighbors attempted to rescue the trapped victim but were forced back as flames quickly overtook the vehicle.

Both surviving women were airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center, where they remain in critical but stable condition.

Residents in the area say this is far from the first serious crash on that road, pointing to multiple past incidents, including another major accident in 2024 and several vehicles crashing into nearby homes. Many are now calling for immediate safety changes to prevent further tragedies.

The victim who died reportedly celebrating his upcoming 36th birthday at the time of the crash.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is actively investigating what led to the incident.
