Florida Highway Patrol Trooper and Driver Hospitalized Following Crash on I-95 Near Golden Glades Interchange
NORTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. – A severe collision involving a Florida Highway Trooper on Interstate 95 in Northeast Miami-Dade resulted in the trooper and a civilian driver having to be rushed to a local hospital with significant personal injuries.

The incident occurred around 12:05 a.m. on Saturday near the Golden Glades Interchange. According to FHP officials, the accident involved a Toyota Camry whose driver lost control of the vehicle, likely due to hydroplaning on the rain-slicked roadway. The out-of-control Camry veered into the southbound express lanes, crashing into a parked FHP cruiser.
The trooper’s vehicle was stationed in the express lanes, which were closed at the time for ongoing construction. The patrol car was strategically placed to protect construction workers from potential hazards.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, transporting both the trooper and the Camry’s driver to Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. The trooper, who sustained a fracture, was discharged on Sunday and is expected to recover. However, there has been no official update on the condition of the Toyota Camry driver.
The FHP cruiser sustained extensive damage in the crash. Incidents like these, where police vehicles are involved in accidents, underscore the inherent dangers that law enforcement officers face, even when stationary. Police vehicles are often deployed in high-risk areas such as construction zones, where they can be vulnerable to collisions due to unpredictable driving conditions or driver errors. The FHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident, which serves as a stark reminder of the importance of caution when driving near emergency vehicles or through construction zones.
