SUNRISE, FLA. (WSVN) – A heart-stopping moment unfolded in Sunrise on Friday afternoon when a vehicle took an unscheduled plunge into a canal, leaving bystanders in shock but thankfully causing no injuries.
The unexpected splashdown occurred near Northwest 60th Terrace and 29th Street, just before 1 p.m., according to Sunrise Police.
Authorities say the driver somehow lost control, sending the vehicle careening off the road and into the water. What could have been a tragedy quickly turned into a stroke of luck, as everyone inside managed to escape unharmed before the car sank beneath the surface.
Aerial footage from a local news agency captured the dramatic aftermath, with a tow truck fishing the submerged SUV out of the canal while onlookers watched.
For now, the mystery of how the vehicle ended up taking a swim remains under investigation.

SOUTH MIAMI-DADE, FLA. – A routine drive turned into a nightmare when a car veered off the road and plunged into a canal after a devastating crash with a tractor-trailer. The harrowing scene triggered a massive emergency response, with over 10 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units and dive teams rushing to the scene.
The accident unfolded near 112th Avenue, just south of the Turnpike at Mile Marker 9. The force of the impact sent the vehicle airborne, flipping it onto its roof before it disappeared beneath the murky waters.

Meanwhile, dive teams conducted an exhaustive search for any additional passengers but found none.
As a result of the crash, traffic ground to a crawl, with two right northbound lanes of the Turnpike near Exit 9 shut down, causing significant delays.
