Miami Car Accident Lawyer: Road Rage Incident in Cutler Bay Highlights Dangers Facing Cyclists

A recent road rage incident in Cutler Bay demonstrates how quickly aggressive driving can place cyclists and other roadway users in serious danger. The Miami Car Accident Lawyer team at the Perazzo Law Firm reminds motorists that bicyclists have a right to use Florida roadways, and drivers must operate their vehicles with reasonable care around them.

According to local news reports, a group of cyclists was riding near Southwest 87th Avenue and Southwest 184th Street at approximately 7:30 a.m. when investigators say a driver operating a black SUV allegedly attempted to force one cyclist off the roadway.

Authorities said a verbal confrontation followed. During the dispute, the accused driver allegedly produced a firearm and fired toward the cyclist before fleeing the area.

Fortunately, the cyclist was not struck by the gunfire, and no injuries were reported. Investigators later identified and arrested the accused driver. Authorities reported that he faces felony charges including aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

All charges remain allegations unless proven in court.

Aggressive Driving Can Cause Serious Miami Car Accidents

Even when an incident does not result in physical injury, attempting to force a cyclist from the road can create an extremely dangerous situation. A bicycle rider may lose control, collide with another vehicle, strike a fixed object, or be thrown onto the pavement.

A Miami Car Accident Lawyer may represent victims injured because of dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, tailgating, improper passing, failing to yield, distracted driving, road rage, and intentionally unsafe vehicle maneuvers.

Cyclists struck or forced off the roadway can suffer serious injuries, including:

  • Traumatic brain injuries and concussions
  • Neck and spinal injuries
  • Herniated discs
  • Broken arms, legs, or ribs
  • Shoulder and knee injuries
  • Severe road rash
  • Facial injuries and scarring
  • Permanent disability or wrongful death

When negligent or reckless driving causes an accident, injured victims may have the right to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and other accident-related damages.
