Inquiry initiated following Coral Gables police officer’s hospitalization via airlift after motorcycle collision. Coral Gables, FL – A police officer from Coral Gables was transported to the hospital via airlift after a collision involving a motorcycle officer and a car.
Coral Gables Police and Fire Rescue units were dispatched to a traffic collision involving a police officer near Alhambra Circle and Cantoria Avenue, shortly before 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Investigators stated that the collision occurred between an on-duty officer on a motorcycle and an SUV.
“A significant amount of damage was sustained by both the motorcycle and the vehicle, indicating a forceful impact,” stated a Sergeant from the Coral Gables Police Department. Local news footage depicted the extent of the damage, with the driver’s side door of the SUV visibly pushed forward, revealing the underlying metal frame, while the motorcycle lay on its side nearby, next to a tree. The identity of the officer involved in the collision has not been disclosed.
An inquiry has been initiated to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the collision within this Coral Gables neighborhood. One eyewitness claimed that the SUV failed to stop, resulting in the collision with the motorcycle. “It appeared that the white car did not stop, leading to the collision between the motorcycle and the white car,” stated an eyewitness. This assertion is currently being investigated.
The injured officer was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital via airlift and is expected to recover. The driver of the SUV did not sustain any injuries. Several of the officer’s colleagues rushed to the hospital to check on their fellow officer. “We are optimistic about his recovery,” stated one officer.
