Palm Beach County Mother Seeking Justice

A mother from Palm Beach County is speaking out after her son was physically assaulted at John F. Kennedy Middle School, claiming the school took nearly two weeks to address the incident. The mother of a 7th-grader was attacked by another student on August 29 while walking down a stairwell. The altercations had begun earlier, on August 22, when the assistant principal mentioned mediation, which never happened.

The child’s mother described how her son was punched more than 15 times, kicked in the head, and thrown down the stairs, breaking his braces in the process. The school did not inform her of the attack—she learned about it through footage shared by another parent. Days later, on September 3, the school suspended the other student for a week.

Her son, who has ADHD and has been bullied before, has been struggling since the attack, experiencing trouble sleeping. The student’s mother has since removed him from the school and launched a campaign to support his therapy.

The Palm Beach County School District issued a statement, saying the incident is under investigation and emphasizing their commitment to school safety. Meanwhile, the mother should seek legal advice from a professional premises liability personal injury accident lawyer in Palm Beach.

Premises Liability and Schools

Premises liability laws hold property owners and managers responsible for maintaining a safe environment to prevent harm to visitors. In the context of schools, this means administrators and staff have a legal duty to ensure student safety on campus. School officials must take reasonable steps to address hazards, such as inadequate supervision or bullying, and respond promptly to any incidents that threaten the well-being of students.

Failure to provide a safe environment can result in legal consequences, especially if negligence leads to injury. Schools are required to have protocols in place, including anti-bullying policies, proper supervision, and prompt disciplinary actions, to protect students and ensure a safe learning environment.
