Man Arrested for Driving 140 MPH on Florida Turnpike
WEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. – The Florida Highway Patrol arrested a man driving over 100 miles per hour on the Florida Turnpike Sunday evening.
Cell phone footage shows troopers chasing a Jeep Grand Cherokee near Southwest 8th Street at the turnpike ramp in West Miami-Dade around 7 p.m. Authorities identified the driver who was trying to evade police and driving erratically at speeds up to 140 miles per hour before eventually going off-road and stopping. According to the police report, troopers first spotted the Grand Cherokee with a temporary paper tag on State Road 836. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, Rodriguez sped away as soon as they turned on their lights.
The video shows the driver trying to enter the turnpike southbound from the eastbound lanes of 8th Street. He then makes a sudden U-turn and drives onto the grass in an attempt to escape. He didn’t get far and eventually surrendered to authorities with his hands in the air. The 30-year-old faces multiple charges, including eluding police, possession of a weapon while committing an offense, no vehicle registration, and driving without a valid license. The authorities reported injuries or accidents.
