MIAMI BEACH: The owner of an SUV is speaking out about an incident in which a tow truck driver broke into her vehicle and stole valuables shortly after removing it from a municipal lot in South Beach. The SUV owner expressed her outrage at the incident and the violation she felt. She had recorded the incident on her smartphone and showed the footage to the police, who later arrested the driver on charges of burglary and petty theft. Beach Towing, which employs the perpetrator, is contracted by the city of Miami Beach, and a city spokesperson stated that they take such matters seriously and urged anyone who has been victimized to contact the Miami Beach Police. The tow truck company employee is due to appear in court on May 2.

MIAMI BEACH, FLA. – An irate man ended up in jail after taking extreme measures to retrieve his car from a South Beach tow yard, with the chaotic scene caught on camera. Miami Beach Police officers, including SWAT team members, responded to Tremont Towing on Bay Road near 18th Street on Saturday night. Officers arrived to handle the angry man whose car had been towed. According to the arrest report, he was attempting to leave without paying. An employee can be heard saying, “He’s trying to get out!” in the moments before officers arrived. The suspect allegedly tried to drive his car off the tow lot. Cameras captured the suspect on the property. The arrest report states that a front desk employee allowed him to enter the tow yard under the pretext of retrieving his registration and driver’s license. Once inside, the suspect became confrontational, getting into a parked car and pushing it to make way for his own vehicle. He then hit a BMW and tried to exit.
“Shut that gate!” an employee is heard shouting.
Employees attempted to stop the suspect by forming a tow truck blockade, but he hit one of their trucks as well.
“He just hit my truck!” an employee exclaimed.
During the attempted escape, employees called the police.
“This is Tremont Towing. I have a gentleman here who came inside the yard and is trying to exit the yard with his vehicle,” an employee told a dispatcher.
Officers arrived quickly, halting business operations and causing delays for others who were there to retrieve their towed vehicles.
“There is a very potentially dangerous situation,” an employee said. “It’s kind of cut off by police right now, so you won’t be able to pick up your car right now.”
Police tried to talk the suspect out of his car, but he initially refused to cooperate. Eventually, he surrendered.
“Finally gave up. Finally gave up,” an employee is heard saying.
The suspect exited his car and was held at gunpoint.
“They got him!” an employee is heard saying.
After a couple of hours, the tense situation at the tow yard ended with the suspect in custody.
No one was injured, and business resumed after police took the suspect away.
The suspect faces several charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, petty theft, and resisting arrest.
