A devastating crash in Miami Gardens involving an alleged drunk driver has left a community in mourning. According to news reports, a speeding SUV slammed into the back of a car, killing a woman and four children. Authorities suspect the driver was under the influence, and he now faces multiple vehicular homicide charges.
The fatal collision occurred Saturday evening along Northwest 37th Avenue near 170th Street—an area already notorious for dangerous traffic incidents. This intersection, along with high-risk roadways like Northwest 27th Avenue, State Road 7, and the Palmetto Expressway’s exits, has seen its fair share of deadly wrecks.
Surveillance footage captured the chilling moment just before 6 p.m. when a black SUV barreled into the back of a white Nissan Altima, crushing it against a silver Cadillac Escalade ahead. The Altima’s five occupants were rushed to hospitals in Broward County as trauma patients, but despite efforts to save them, all succumbed to their injuries.
“It’s a horrific night—not just for the victims’ families, but for our entire community,” said a Miami Gardens Police executive officer. “It’s also an incredibly tough night for the first responders who had to witness this tragedy firsthand.”
In addition to the five fatalities, at least five other individuals involved in the crash were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

Investigators suspect the 25-year-old SUV driver was heavily intoxicated and traveling at an alarming speed when the collision occurred. He has since been charged with five counts of vehicular homicide, with the possibility of additional charges as the investigation unfolds.
As authorities continued their work into the night, flashing lights illuminated the grim scene—a tragic reminder of the deadly consequences of reckless and impaired driving.
Miami Gardens, like much of South Florida, has been plagued by hazardous intersections and roadways, where speeding and DUIs contribute to numerous fatal accidents each year. From the bustling traffic of Northwest 183rd Street to the chaotic merging lanes of I-95, drivers must remain vigilant.
Late Saturday night, police had not yet released the names of the victims, but one thing remained certain—this senseless loss of life will leave an indelible mark on the Miami Gardens community.
