Man Arrest in Miami-Dade on Fraud Charges
A Coral Springs man is facing multiple felony charges after investigators accused him of participating in an organized fraud scheme that allegedly targeted elderly victims using fake bank and federal agent phone calls while utilizing Uber package pickups to collect cash and financial information.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the suspect turned himself in after detectives linked him to identity theft, fraudulent communications, and a police pursuit through Miami and Interstate 95. Authorities said the investigation began after Uber reported suspicious package pickups connected to an elderly fraud case.
Investigators allege victims were tricked into withdrawing money and surrendering financial information after receiving calls from individuals posing as bank employees or FBI agents. Detectives also said the suspect fled from officers during an attempted stop, nearly striking law enforcement vehicles before abandoning his car.
The suspect now faces charges including organized fraud, aggravated fleeing and eluding, aggravated assault on law enforcement officers, and resisting arrest. Uber stated it cooperated with authorities and encourages drivers to report suspicious activity.
