North Miami – A baby girl was born under an Interstate 95 overpass in North Miami, adding a new dimension to the term “rush hour,” as her mother went into labor at home and sought assistance from a Lyft driver to reach the hospital. However, during the journey, the mother experienced intense pain, prompting the driver to stop. Realizing they wouldn’t make it to the hospital on time, the mother contacted her cousin, Cherley Zamor, who followed the Lyft vehicle.
Underneath the overpass on Northwest 135th Street, North Miami Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units arrived just before 5 p.m. on Wednesday. Zamor, the cousin, joined the expectant mother in the rideshare car and assisted in the delivery.
Describing the situation, Zamor mentioned the mother’s cries of pain and her role in guiding the delivery process. Once officials arrived, both the mother and the newborn were transported to Jackson North Medical Center. Fortunately, both patients are reported to be in good health.
