High-Speed Pursuit from Margate to MIA Ends in Arrest
Miami International Airport, FLA.- A man was apprehended at Miami International Airport after leading authorities on a cross-county police chase in a stolen vehicle from Margate.
Early Wednesday morning, a black Chevy Tahoe, reported stolen from a business in Margate, was pursued by a Miami-Dade Police officer on the westbound State Road 112 expressway towards MIA. The pursuit ensued after the Broward Sheriff’s Office Aviation team tracked the vehicle leaving Broward County.
Aerial footage showed the Tahoe being pursued by Miami-Dade Police officers, as it traveled onto southbound Interstate 95 through North Miami and Northeast Miami-Dade, eventually arriving at MIA. The vehicle was captured on camera weaving through traffic before reaching the heavily monitored airport.
As the Tahoe approached the airport, it entered the departure lanes, ultimately stopping near Terminal E where the driver was promptly detained by authorities without resistance.
Witnesses at the scene expressed surprise at the choice of location for the chase’s end, with some speculating on the driver’s motives for driving to the airport.
The stolen vehicle belonged to a Margate man who had been burglarized the previous night, resulting in the loss of merchandise and tools. However, during the pursuit, only one individual was observed in the vehicle.
The suspect, identified as 57-year-old, was charged with grand theft and fleeing and eluding police. Authorities have not confirmed whether a second suspect is still being sought or if the damaged vehicle recovered at the scene is indeed the one involved in the chase.
Despite the high-speed nature of the pursuit, no injuries were reported, and air traffic at MIA remained unaffected.
